Today is the final day of the Art Show at St. Matthew's Church in Buckhorn and it was once again a warm and sunny day.

Although the crowds were smaller today than on the previous two days we still had a good turn out.

Another four original paintings have sold from Bonny Windover and Susan Sydney, as well as a number of smaller items from Jo-Anne Connell Northey and Diane Collins.

Looking forward to our Shades of Summer Show which will be held 07-15 August 2010.

Heather Grant

Originally from Toronto, Heather was attracted by the beautiful birds and flowers of her childhood home in the Kawarthas. They were the inspiration to become a painter.

Heather is an award winning artist of many media, including traditional rug hooking, watercolour, pastel, pen and ink, oil and wood carving. However, she says she finds watercolours the most challenging. "There is a softness that no other medium has," she says.

She has taken painting instruction from a number of artists including Edwin Matthews, Gordon MacKenzie, Mary Lampman and Al Poolman as well as wildlife wood carving from Bruce Leper.

Heather is a member of the Buckhorn Artists' Group and the Kawartha Rug Hooking Guild.

Her paintings are on display in many local venues including the Selwyn Restaurant in Selwyn, St. Matthew's-St. Aidan Anglican Church in Buckhorn, and Harbourne-by-the-Lake Antique Shop in Lakefield.

Penny Little

Penny Little is a fifth generation Stoney Lake resident. Penny spent her childhood summers with her family enjoying the beauties of the area. Her paintings reflect her experiences with the lake and trips to its surrounding areas.

Retired now on Stoney, and living in the house which she designed. Penny is still drawn to the scenes which she remembers as a child. She also is developing a keen eye for the trails left behind by her four children and eight grand children. What she remembers and what she sees from, the basis for her oils, watercolour and sketches.

A relative newcomer to the artistic world, Penny says "I've always had the idea that I might be able to paint....'if my twin can do it so can I'...but until the last few years just haven't had the time to try". She is making up for lost time, studying and doing workshops with local artists. Including the Buckhorn Artists' Group and the Peterborough School of Fine Art and a variety of short courses. In addition to the Juniper Island Art Festival, Penny has sold paintings at Crowe's Arts and Craft Show, The Buckhorn Artists' Group Shows, The Fenelon Falls Art Festival, The Cobourg Waterfront Festival and the Lakefield Jazz and Art Festival.

Her favourite painting place is her home on Gilchrist Bay where she does most of her work. Out of her home and at shows, she offers for sale greeting cards of many of her paintings, as well as the original paintings, sketches and the occasional personalized paddle. She accepts commission work of cottages and local scenes from which she will make personal greeting cards.

"Stoney Lake, the peaceful surroundings, and changing moods, the natural calming atmosphere, the antics of the grandchildren and the encouragement of family and friends, are my inspiration. I hope my work reflects the joy I feel in producing it."
