Setting up the 22nd Annual Shades of Summer Art Show

It was interesting setting up the panels in St. Matthew's Church tonight for the 22st Annual Shades of Summer Art Show.

We had a violent thunderstorm last night that caused a tree  to be uprooted and knocked down a hydro pole, which caused a nine hour black out for the entire area from Selwyn to Buckhorn approximately 4 square miles (10.4 square km ).

The storm just didn't want to leave and it poured down rain the entire time we had to bring the panels inside the building. Needless to say most of use were soaking wet by the time we were ready to set up the panels in the dark.

Fortunately some of us had flashlights in our vehicles and we measured out the where the panels needed to be set up with the aid of three flashlights.

It was after 10:00pm when we finally finished and had all the panels and  tables set up.

Most of us decided against bringing in the paintings inside in the pouring rain and trying to hang them by flashlight. That would just be an accident waiting to happen and we would still have to return today to finish.

Today most of us spent the day hanging the art show at Buckhorn. We worked together to get everything hung on the panels and set up on the tables.

We broke for lunch and went next door to the Cody Inn for a much needed rest from hanging the show.

After lunch things went up fairly quickly so by late afternoon we are finally ready for our opening tomorrow morning.

The hours for our show are:
11 Aug 12- 10:00am - 5:00pm
12 Aug 12 - 12:30pm - 5:00pm

Deborah Wasson

Deborah Wasson was raised in the beautiful scenic Kawartha Lakes area, manifesting a creative and natural intuition in the arts as a child. She views painting as an escape from the normal routine and pressures of life, an opportunity to express the beauty and energy inside oneself.

Although she has sold a large percentage of her paintings. The first few years were an experimental process in self expression, concentrating on the inner rather than the outer. This approach has had a very positive, emotional response in her viewers. She has started to do commission paintings as well.

Winning a number of ribbons, recognition, as well as the "Future Promise Award" from Gallery on the Lake. Debbie has studied with a variety of Canadian Artists, Art Cunanan, Terry Andrews, Al Poolman, Gordon MacKenzie and has recently studies with famous Canadian painter from British Columbia, Brent Heighton in 1996, 1997, and 1999. She plans on continuing her studies more extensively in the future in New York City and other U.S. cities.

"My focus is to continue to experiment and create paintings that make the viewer feel optimistic and influencing them to focus on the positive in their life."
